What I Wish My Text Said

No, I can’t hang out today.
I’m sorry - I’m incredibly busy.
But I’m not busy folding laundry
Or meal-prepping for Monday
Or tidying up my empty house
Or finishing up house projects
Or running useless errands
Or checking all my work emails
Or mowing the overgrown lawn.
I’m not doing any of that.
I’m actually doing nothing.
I’m lying in my bed, staring at the ceiling for hours.
I’m letting tears delicately fall from my cheeks on my pillow.
I’m tasting each tear, wondering if they’ll forever be this salty.
I’m placing my hand over my heart to make sure it’s still beating.
I’m replaying my past over and over again until it explodes.
I’m struggling to get out of my own way and move on.
I’m questioning my entire existence on this planet.
So, no, I can’t hang out today.
I’m sorry - That’s the real reason why.
